Bath Junkie

i just *hate* Macy's.  I always feel that the item I'm buying is going to be on sale next week or 20% cheaper than it is currently priced if only I'd make the credit card sacrifice to the Federated feudal overlords.

Why the micro-rant?  Another Federated sibling, Bath & Body Works is having a decent sale on kits and gifts good for stocking gift closets (which I used to have before Basement Hell began).  The Japanese Cherry Blossom scent is very nice and subtle...and for 10-bucks???

I wish the guy who runs BBW would take over Macy's (and yes, it is a guy because let's face it, who knows more about women than, er, men).

Who the Hell is Craig?

Apologies to my regular readers for my hiatus.  Got distracted by some IRL work/home realities (apparently food doesn't magically *appear* in the fridge and did you know that kids aren't allowed to drive themselves to soccer? ...And while I'm on the subject of soccer, oh dear GOD -- why are there so many rehearsals practices and games?  How is it that EVERY American child plays this game at some point in their life and yet we still don't join the rest of the world as passionate supporters of football as it is played with your feet?)

So yes, lots of deals, especially clearance going on right now with the last of summer.  All my favorite haunts are blowing out the last of summer and some early Fall items.  But honestly, the best deal of the month (actually of the year) goes to Craigslist.  If you have heard of Craigslist, but never gone on...do yourself a favor and check it out in your local area (click on your state and then on your nearest city.

It's like the classifieds, on steroids -- all the stuff is local and often ridiculously inexpensive, especially larger items like furniture, lawnmowers, baby gear and building supplies.  I bought my daughter a badly needed set of shelves that turned out to be Workbench in solid cherry for...$50.  The folks we bought them from were as nice as you'd ever want to meet -- they bought the set a few years ago for $2-large.  Wow.

I moved from fan to brand advocate of Craigslist the day their CEO publicly turned down paid advertising support on the site with the comment, "I don't think our Craigslist community want advertising.  If that changes, I'll let you know".  Maybe Craig will run for President?

The Gilded Age

So if you visit the Ralph Lauren site, the Spring 2008 collection is showing...which I swear looks like every other RL Spring collection.  He has 4 basic themes with all his collections: horses (as in Ascot or "Polo"), sailing (nautical, stripes, blue or red and white), formal (tuxedo, black/white), or vintage (generally the 1920s or 30s).  That's it.  Look at the home collection.  I mean the belts start at $795 for an equestrian theme with a horse bit that is sooo Tom Ford/Gucci 2001 .  The mary jane spectator pump for $600.  Yawn.

OTOH, the nautical themed bedding is a pretty good deal on sale.  The sale extends to clothes and cashmere, which still translates to $45 shoes for toddlers, but use coupon code LCSALE25 for 25% savings.

Doll Nightmares

Because all us mommies need more, er, stuffed animals, dolls or dinosaurs in the house.  So if the dearth of overpriced toys is keeping you up at night...here's the deal: 20% off any stuffed animal in the world you can find on the cleverly named stuffedanimals.com  Apply coupon coupon code STUFFTEMBER at checkout -- expires 09/18/2007

I can just hear the little treasures now "ooo she's soooo cuuuute mommmeeee pwwweeeeeassse???"

I'll post a real deal in a tic.  Seriously -- can you believe the crap that's on the web?

Why Pay-more?

Hey B!  Get onto Payless.com RIGHT NOW for the hot new Lela Rose collection.  I cannot believe $25  for these darling t-strap heels straight off the runway, you need to be fast to snag them online.    OMG or this pair with the bow.   Some selected stores carry the line, but most do not so call ahead first if you want to save on shipping.I will advise to stay away from the boots because they look horrible IRL: plastic, tacky and uncomfortable.

Here's a coupon code for saving $5 on purchases of $70: PSS5OFF70. Coupon may not work with sale prices.  Expires 09/19/2007.

I Heart Kelloggs

They've got a sweet little deal over at Amazon where you buy $15 of Kellogg's Smart Start cereal and get a Healthy Heart Kit FREE (reg. $20).

Ya gotta buy cereal, right?  And of the 'healthy' cereals, SS tastes okay plus they'll ship it to your front door.  Don't forget that heart disease is #1 killer of women and it is PREVENTABLE.
